Kulpmont - Anita Ambrose, a well-known regional artist who specialized in colorful acrylic paintings and hand-painted furniture passed away on June 11, 2021, at Serenity Gardens care facility in Kulpmont, Pennsylvania.

Anita's artwork was displayed for many years in local shops and galleries in northeastern Pennsylvania and was very popular at art festivals from Virginia to New York. She also touched the lives of friends with her work in the many places she lived, including Missouri and Kentucky, before moving to the Northeast. She was generous with her time and artwork as exemplified by the numerous paintings she donated to the Endless Mountains Health Systems in Montrose.

A self-taught artist inspired by impressionism, Anita began her career in the 1970's by producing pastel chalk artwork of landscapes and portraits that evolved into drawings of friends' homes and spectacular paintings of garden and nature scenes. Instead of using an easel, she enjoyed laying her canvasses on the floor of her studio and sitting cross-legged while quickly painting. She often scraped the dried paint off her palette and used it to create additional art pieces with a three-dimensional texture. In addition to painting, she was a skilled photographer and also enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Anita (Hendrix) Ambrose was born July 17, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Joy and Ida (Sachs) Hendrix. Her husband of 51 years, James E. Ambrose, predeceased her in 2018. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Daniel Wolfgang of Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania; grandsons, Wade and Drew; a sister, Linda Hendrix of Memphis Tennessee; brothers, Clayton Hendrix of Riverton, Wyoming, and Steve Hendrix of Iowa City, Iowa; and nephews Gregory and Brian Sloan.

Anita Ambrose, Kulpmont - The family will hold a private celebration of life for Anita and Jim at a later date.
