Mount Carmel - Ann M. Backes, 66, of 615 East 7th Street, passed away on January 9, 2018, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Coal Township on October 16, 1951 she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Evelyn (Barton) Quinn.

She was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes, Coal Township and attended the Church of Our Lady, Mount Carmel.

On September 26, 2008 she finally agreed to marry her partner and love of her life, John "Jack" Backes in Mount Carmel. She was the owner/operator of Ann's Tobacco Shop and Ann's Tans. Prior to that, she had a long work history at Jay Jewelers, Regional Ambulance, Kulpmont American Legion, Independence Fire Company, Centralia Legion, and also at the Law office of Michael Mychak.

Ann was an avid bowler and enjoyed camping with her family at Little Mexico Campground. She was also a die hard Eagles and Phillies fan and enjoyed spending time with her cats: Lucky and Char.

She is survived by her husband John Backes; a son, Shawn Bogutskie and his significant other Misty Gidaro of Northampton; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Deitz and her husband Brian of Kulpmont, two granddaughters, Mackenzie Gidaro and Sara Deitz; a grandson, Robert Deitz; a brother, Jerry Quinn and his wife Cindy of Shamokin; a sister, Mary McCallister of FL; two nephews, Victor Swaboski, Matthew Swaboski; a niece, Lisa Brokenshire; two great nephews, Victor Swaboski, and Nicholas Swaboski; and two great nieces, Abbey Brokenshire, and Emmy Brokenshire;. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by a sister, Cathy Swaboski; and a brother, Joseph Quinn.

Ann M. Backes, 66, of 615 East 7th Street, Mount Carmel - A religious service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 8:00 PM in C. J. Lucas Funeral Home in Mount Carmel, with Father Frank Karwacki, officiating. Burial will be held in Northumberland Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
