Mount Carmel - Anna Herko, 94, died Monday, January 15, 2018 at Mount Carmel Senior Living Community.

Born in Atlas on February 11, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Petronko) Ello. She was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School with the Class of 1941 and was a lifelong resident of Mount Carmel.

She was employed as a parachute inspector during World War II in Bloomsburg and later worker in the garment industry as a blouse inspector.

On June 10, 1945 in SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Mount Carmel she married the late Michael Herko who preceded her in death on March 15, 1998.

Anna was a member of SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Mount Carmel, the Altar Rosary Society, Sedulity and choir.

Survivors include one daughter, Elaine Tamburro of Mount Carmel; two grandchildren Joseph Tamburro and his wife Ginger and  David Tamburro both of Atlas; one great granddaughter Elizabeth Tamburro; several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Stachak and one brother, Peter Ello.

Anna Herko, 94, of Mount Carmel Senior Living Community - Divine Liturgy will be celebrated Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11:00 am in SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 131 North Beech Street, Mount Carmel with Very Reverend Archpriest Michael Hutsko, officiating.  Burial will be in SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.  Viewing will be held Friday morning from 10:00 until time of service in SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church.
