Mount Carmel - A nthony J. Zavatski, 82, of 422 East Fourth Street, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017 in his residence.

Born in Ashland State Hospital on June 9, 1935, he was the son of the late Anthony J. and Anna (Yaudegis) Zavatski.

In addition to living in Mount Carmel he was a former resident of St. Albans, Queens, and Hicksville Long Island, NY.

He was an entrepreneur having operated the Ski-Z Laundromats, M & W Stat, Z & Z Coffee Shop and Dutch Country Pretzels. At the age of 23 he was the youngest supervisor at Surplus Foods.

On May 8, 1993 in St. Casimir's Church, Kulpmont he married the former Helen Brittell, who preceded him in death on January 2, 2015.

He was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School with the Class of 1953 and attended Temple University for two years.

He was a great playground basketball player, Lenny Wishneski said that he was the best basketball player in Mount Carmel, next to him. Mike Terry said if he played football they would win two more games.  Frank Merges said he was a great baseball player.  He teamed up with Lenny Falkie and they won 22 straight two on two basketball games; their biggest games were against Ron Coleman and Bibs Credito.

He was a former member of the Our Mother of Consolation Church, and St. Casimir's Church currently a member of Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and was a member of the Eagles, Knights of Columbus, Sons of Poland and the Lithuanian Club.

Survivors include one brother, Dr. Robert R. Zavatski and his wife Jeanne of Mount Camel; two nephews, Paul Zavatski and Robert "Luke" Zavatski of Long Island, NY, two nieces, Diane Zavatski and her partner Diane Peck of Long Island, NY and Laura Sorrentino and her partner David Lamb of Mount Carmel, two great nieces, Jenina Zavatski-Sorrentino and Julianna Sorrentino of Long Island, NY and two great nephews, Joseph Sorrentino of Long Island, NY and Logan Shuder of Mount Carmel.

Anthony J. Zavatski, 82, of 422 East Fourth Street, Mount Carmel - Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11:00 am in Church of Our Lady, 47 South Market Street, Mount Carmel with Father Francis Karwacki, officiating.  Burial will be in Our Mother of Consolation Cemetery, Mount Carmel Twp.  Visitation will be held Friday morning from 9:00 - 10:45 with Transferal Prayers at 10:00 in the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home, Inc., 27 North Vine Street, Mount Carmel, C.J.
