Kulpmont – Antoinette Howanec, 93, passed away on Thursday, May 19, at Mountain View Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, Coal Township.

Antoinette was born in Ranshaw on September, 19, 1928 the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Wisloski) Wasko.  On July 7, 1950, in Saint Anthony's Church Ranshaw, she married Nicholas Howanec, who preceded her in death in 2002.

"Toni" was a graduate of Coal Township High School and always took pride in being a "Brady" girl.   She was employed as a weaver at the Woolen Mill in Shamokin and later as the Sample Weaver at the Can Mac Mill in Kulpmont.

She was a member of the Patronage of the Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church in Marion Heights.

Toni was a gifted Knitter, Crocheter, and Tatter and enjoyed making Pysankys during the Easter Season.  She loved teaching other people the finer points of tatting or dying Pysankys and there was always someone at the house looking for help with a complicated pattern or just learning how to do something new.  She was an avid card player and her and her sister Doris were formidable in the Slate Run poker games.  Toni loved visits from her nieces, nephews and cousin Barbara and was happiest holding court in the living room.  She was always feisty, and the older she got the feistier she became.  4'10" inches of dynamite ready to go toe to toe with anyone.  But hidden under every ounce of feistiness were two or three pounds of love and kindness.

Toni is survived by a son Gary Howanec and his wife Jean, of Lewisburg; a sister, Doris Yablonski, Smithtown, NY; sisters-in-law, Shirley Wasko, Ranshaw, and Irene Howanec, Chicago Illinois; her favorite cousin Barbara (Wisloski) Grace, Providence, RI; a host of nieces and nephews; and honorary second son John Halcovich and family, Bryn Mawr, PA.  In addition to her parents and husband Nick, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Wasko, a brother Joseph Wasko, sisters/bothers in law, Sam and Mary Wisloski, Donald Yablonski, Paul and Martha Bartko, Pauline Howanec, Myron Howanec, Paul Howanec, Joseph Howanec and Jack Howanec, who lived with Nick and Toni his entire life.  Father Tony liked to tell everyone that Antoinette married Nick and got Jack for a wedding present.

Antoinette Howanec, 93, Kulpmont– Graveside Service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in care of C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, Malcom C.
