Mount Carmel – Barbara A. (Janaskie) Vitacco, 83, of 645 W. 5th St., passed away August 10, 2023, at her residence.

She was born in Shamokin on January 20, 1940, the daughter of the late William and Caroline (Rycyk) Janaskie.

Barbara attended Marion Heights Catholic School, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, Mt. Carmel Catholic High School, and Kulpmont High School. She lived in Shamokin, Marion Heights, New Jersey, and most recently in Mount Carmel. She worked as a clothing inspector in local garment factories and as a chambermaid at the Pine Burr Inn.

In May of 1959, in St. Stanislaus Church, Shamokin, she married Reynold Vitacco, who preceded her in death in 1992.

Barbara was a member of Divine Redeemer Church. She was a member of the Mount Carmel Senior Action Center and enjoyed shopping trips and Chinese Auctions.

Barbara is survived by two nephews, Frank Ryniak and wife, Sharon of MD and John J. Ryniak Jr. and wife, Mary Teresa of Mount Carmel; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Michael Vitacco; two sisters, Sophie Mrozowski and Caroline Ryniak; and a brother, Vincent Janaskie.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 11 a.m. with Father Bernard Wamayose, A.J. officiating in Divine Redeemer Church, Mt. Carmel. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Arrangements are in care of C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mt. Carmel, PA, C. J. Lucas IV, Supervisor.
