Basil Hashuga, 84, of 498 W Girard St, Atlas, passed away on July 8, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.

He was born in Upper Sagon on August 25, 1939, the son of the late Walter and Anna (Maschuch) Hashuga. He was raised in Hickory Ridge, and in 1974 he moved to his current residence in Atlas.

Basil was a graduate of Coal Township High School, class of 1957. He later worked in the local textile industry.

On September 12, 1964, at the Transfiguration Church in Shamokin, he married Maryann P. Nevis, who preceded him in death on October 31, 2014.

Basil served in the US Army Reserves for 6 years, from 1960 to 1966. He was a member of Divine Redeemer Church, as well as the Mount Carmel Knights of Columbus and the Kulpmont VFW. He was a lifelong Member of the Anthracite Fire Company in Mount Carmel.

Basil loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He was an avid bowler and scored 300 in his league. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was very generous and would help anyone whenever he could.

Basil is survived by a son, Matthew; a granddaughter, Mara; a grandson, Liam, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by 2 sisters, Josephine Bepsistos and Rose Lynn.

A viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, with transferal prayers at 10:00 a.m. in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home, 27 N. Vine St., Mt. Carmel, PA, C. J. Lucas IV, Supervisor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Father Bernard Wamayose, A J officiating in Divine Redeemer Church, 300 W. Ave., Mount Carmel, PA. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Elysburg.
