PAXINOS — Bernadette (Kelly) Barvitskie, 69, of 530 Airport Road, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2023, at her residence with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Shamokin on September 28, 1953, the daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy (Robel) Kelly.

Bernadette was a 1971 graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School. She worked as a secretary for Weller Vending for many years and then as a secretary for the Northumberland County Career & Technology Center.

On September 21, 1974, in St. Stephen's Church, Coal Township, she married the late David P. Barvitskie, who preceded her in death on September 29, 2012.

She was a member of Mother Cabrini Catholic Church, Shamokin.

Bernadette was always there for anyone who needed her. She listened, laughed, cried with, and loved everyone in her life. She was a true inspiration of how to love. Bernadette will be truly missed by everyone who loved her, but we can find some solace in her own words, "Heaven is only a fine line from where we are now. I have to go there now, but I will always be close by."

Survivors include her son, Michael Barvitskie and his wife, Nichole; two grandchildren, Alison Barvitskie and Mason Barvitskie; a brother, Bernard Kelly and his wife, Pat; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bernadette was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, David Barvitskie; a sister, Dorothy Buffington and husband, Donald; a brother, Kenneth Kelly; a niece, Susanne Kelly-Mayton; and a nephew, Adam Kelly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023, with Friar James Fukes, OFM-Conv. at Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Visitation will be held on Friday morning in the Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are in care of C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N.
