Ashland – Bruce K. Smith, 78, of 259 Beurys Road, passed away on May 19, 2023 after being hospitalized for 15 days at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born on July 12, 1944, in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Ray Milton and Rosemary (King) Smith.

Bruce was raised in State College, PA and was a graduate of State College High School. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Penn State University. He proudly served in the United States Army with the rank of Captain. He was employed by the PA Department of Corrections for over 30 years.

On September 11, 1971, he married the late Nancy Lee Geiger, who passed on September 29, 2015. They moved to the Ashland area in 1986.

Bruce played clarinet with the Penn State Blue Band, refereed volleyball matches for the PIAA for 25 years, and was an avid golfer. He supported the United Way, the Boys Scouts of America, and the Hillside SPCA.

Bruce is survived by three daughters, Morgan Smith, Tracey Smith, and Tiffany Serakas and husband, John; two sisters, Barbara Weiss and Sherry Erb; as well as three nieces and one nephew.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. with Memorial Service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 with Rev. Joan Brown officiating in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mt. Carmel, C. J. Lucas IV, Supervisor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Schuylkill United Way, 9 N.
