Marion Heights - Catherine "Kado" Mekosh, 95, of 505 Warsaw Street, passed away quietly Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville with her family holding her hands.

Born in Marion Heights on March 22, 1923 she was the daughter of the late John and Cecilia (Hlud) Poponiak.  She was a lifelong resident of Marion Heights and was a 1941 graduate of Kulpmont High School.

She was married October 3, 1953 in St. Mary's Greek Catholic Church, Marion Heights to the late Nicholas Mekosh, who preceded her in death on February 13, 1986.

She was employed in the local garment industry and was also a food inspector for Hanover Foods. She was a member of the Patronage of Mother of God Church, Marion Heights.

Catherine always enjoyed having vegetable and flower gardens with large, fragrant pink roses being her favorite. She was proud that she could get a stem and grow a flower.  She was a very independent person.  She lived at home until age 93 and participated in the LIFE program in Kulpmont.  To pass time, she would collect costume jewelry, play cards (especially UNO), watch TV game shows, and always looked forward to making perogies every month in the church hall.  Kado's smile plus her "social butterfly" personality brought joy to all around her.  Her seven grand and thirteen great grand kids were very special to her.  She will be missed but never forgotten.

Survivors include two sons, Nicholas R. Mekosh and his wife Elizabeth of Kulpmont and Kevin B. Mekosh and his companion, Mary Lumbra of Elysburg; one daughter, Karen Lee M.Grenier of Texas; three grandsons, Stephen Mekosh and his wife Annie of MD; Jason Mekosh and his wife Elisabeth of MD and Kevin B. Mekosh II of Elysburg; four granddaughters, Michelle Laskoski and her husband Clement of Bethel, Krystal Smith and her husband Carl "Moose" of Texas, Misty Martinez and her husband David of Texas and Katherine Asmus and her husband Cameron of Texas; one step-granddaughter, Brittany LeBlanc of Elysburg; thirteen great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Anna Budraitis of Texas, Helen Ruger of New York and Eleanor Poponiak as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, Michael L. Mekosh; seven brothers, John, Joseph, Paul, Michael and Peter and two infants Metro and Stephen Poponiak; two sisters, Anna Connelly and Mary Pisani; seven brothers-in-law, Michael Mekosh, Charles Mekosh, George Mekosh, Alex Mekosh, John Mekosh, and two infants Michael and John and one sister-in-law, Mary Mostik.

Catherine "Kado"Mekosh, 95, of 505 Warsaw Street, Marion Heights - Divine Liturgy will be celebrated Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 11:00 am in Patronage of Mother of God Church, 155 Melrose Street, Marion Heights with Reverend Mykola Ivanov, officiating.  Burial will be in Patronage of Mother of God Cemetery, Marion Heights.  Viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 with Parastas at 7:00 and Thursday morning from 9:00 - 10:45 with Panahyda at 10:15 in the C.J.
