Macungie, PA - Catherine E. (Kay) Scicchitano, 97, peacefully entered eternal rest on August 17th, 2023 at Lehigh Commons, Macungie, PA.

Kay was born March 10, 1926, in Mt. Carmel, PA, a daughter of the late Domenico and Rosa (Varano) Scicchitano. She was a graduate of Mt. Carmel Area High School. Kay worked for seven years to help support her family before attending St. Agnes School of Nursing in Philadelphia. Following her graduation in 1953, she began her career as a psychiatric nurse at Norristown State Hospital. Kay was 53 years young when she returned to school to earn a BS in Health Administration from Eastern College and was very proud of that accomplishment. She retired from Norristown State Hospital after 31 years as a Psychiatric Nurse Supervisor and Administrator.

Kay began a military career in 1958 when she received a direct commission as a First Lieutenant in the Army Reserves Nurse Corp. She retired in 1986 after achieving the rank of Colonel. "Colonel Kay'' was a favorite among her military colleagues. Kay served at a variety of military hospitals and bases during her Reserve military career. She maintained active memberships and key leadership positions in local, state, and national service organizations. Kay earned the Humanitarian Service Award and Meritorious Service Medal.

Kay did not become idle after retirement. She continued her life of service by volunteering at Norristown State Hospital, Norristown Ministries Soup Kitchen, and Epiphany Roman Catholic Church to name a few. She also loved to travel and visited most countries in Europe, making many friends along the way.

Kay always loved being with her immediate and extended families and celebrated many joyous occasions with them. Although Kay maintained her primary residence in the Plymouth Meeting area, she was always proud of her Mt. Carmel roots and maintained a family home there for many years.

Kay is survived by her niece, Joanne (Richard) DiFrancesco and nephews, Joseph Pitingolo, Jr., Edward (Betsy) Pitingolo, and James Pitingolo; great nieces and nephews, Jenna DiFrancesco, Alyssa (Brad) Casacci, Anna, Jimmy, Grace and Louis Pitingolo, and Christian Pitingolo, and great-great niece, Francesca Marie. She is also survived by many loving cousins and their families.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Rose (Joseph) Pitingolo, Sr., Theresa Scicchitano, and Edward Scicchitano, and niece, Cathy Pitingolo.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11 a.m. with Father Bernard Wamayose, A. J. officiating in Divine Redeemer Church, 300 W. Ave., Mt. Carmel, PA. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Twp. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. with transferal prayers at 10 a.m. in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home, Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mt. Carmel, PA, C. J. Lucas IV, supervisor. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions in loving memory of Kay to: Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
