David J. Bednarchik, 71, of Kulpmont passed away on September 21, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on August 21, 1955, a son of the late Stanley and Helen (Nezerski) Bednarchik.

Dave graduated from Saint Casimir’s School in 1969 and Mount Carmel High School in 1973. He joined the US Navy that same year and was billeted on the Aircraft Carrier CVA 43 USS Coral Sea for the Service duration at Alameda Naval Air Station in Northern California. Dave then attended San Francisco Fine Arts Institute, honing his artistic skills. He then attended and graduated from Electronic Engineering Tech in San Francisco with an Associate of Science Degree. He worked in California’s Silicon Valley at Biomation, Gould, Advanced Micro Computers, IBM and Geophysics Corporation of America. Dave also volunteered part-time at Veterans Medical Centers in Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Fort Miley, San Francisco.

After residing in Oakland and San Jose for many years, Dave returned to Kulpmont in 2001, with his best friend and roommate, Jerry, who preceded him in death in 2021.

Dave had many interests, some of which he was very passionate about. He was an avid reader, including many books about the Civil War, and had an amazing memory for what he read. With his vast knowledge, he would’ve been a great tour guide at the Gettysburg Battlefield, where he personally experienced many self-guided tours. He especially enjoyed overnight stays there in a camper with his best friends, Don Artman and his family. Dave loved to travel, especially to France, as he had become a devotee of Saint Joan of Arc, who had been martyred in Rouen. He loved photographing the ancient castles and other breathtaking scenery. Dave loved nature and enjoyed long walks behind Kulpmont, especially in his favorite month of October. He also liked the challenge of walking around town during snowstorms, enduring some falls but no broken bones. He was an avid fan of the Yankees, 49ers, and USC Trojans and enthusiastically supported local high school sports teams, attending many games even in his final days. He could often be seen at Knoebels, where he enjoyed afternoon concerts and playing the Fascination game, along with his friend, Kris, who was an angel in helping and caring for him over the past couple of years of his life. Dave loved everything purple and was very proud of his 1971 Plymouth Duster and 1974 Roadrunner, which are Plum Crazy Purple. He had driven them in the annual Kulpmont Car Cruise.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Helen; numerous aunts and uncles; and his love-for-all-time, Anne Evelyn Alderson of California in October 1980.

Dave is survived by two brothers, Alan of Wilkes-Barre and Mark and his wife, Hilda, of New Cumberland; two nephews, Michael; Joseph and his fiance, MaryRose; a niece, Cassandra and her husband, Ben; three grand-nephews; and two grand-nieces; as well as numerous cousins.
