David Cavezza told me long ago that, when he died and people say to me "I am so sorry," to tell them that "He didn't die, when we are no longer on earth, we are with God" (2 Corinthians 5:8). We are confident, yes, well-pleased rather, to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

I am so grateful for David's life and that he recently was Baptized and received his sacraments in the Roman Catholic Church. He received Holy Communion the night before he died. After his recent Baptism, he wore his crucifix on the outside of his shirt as a witness to his faith and love for the Lord. He started a Prayer Box in 2007, which contained thousands of prayer requests, and we would pray over them two times a day. He always prayed for healing and peace when he traveled past an accident. He prayed for those afflicted to turn their lives over to the Lord and that a million blessings would be showered upon them. Like David in the Bible, He was a man after God's own heart (1 Samuel 13:14 and Acts 13:22).

He was well-traveled: he was a Department of Defense Contractor, traveling to 32 countries and living in 6. He was a successful insurance agent, both abroad and in the States. He had a special place in his heart for veterans and would acknowledge them at every holiday and Memorial Day. He also acknowledged first responders, always thanking them for their service.

His most important work was with the homeless and with those around him: chance encounters, close friends, and even people passing on the street that he didn't know. He began working with the homeless through El Shaddai ministries, and then continued by himself out of the trunk and back of his car. For years, he distributed food, drinks, Bibles, socks and reading glasses to those in need.

David was a talker: he always had something positive to share, and he tried to make everyone feel like they have a voice. As much as he talked, he listened. He liked listening to people's stories, and he liked helping people through their problems. He loved everyone and frequently reminded people that "Kids can't have all the fun." He loved animals and had 2 rescue dogs and 2 cats and was a great fur-baby daddy. Because of his air and vitality and energy, it was like he would always be close if he was needed. It was never a consideration that he wouldn't be a phone call away or in the next selfie on a sunny day.

Saint Paul tells the Romans (12:10) to "Love each other with genuine affection and take delight in honoring each other." We honor the work that he selflessly and tirelessly did, and, through stories and memories, we realize the legacy that he has left behind. He has touched the lives of all those he encountered, and we hope that his example of love, perseverance, and devotion to God continue to inspire and positively affect people throughout their lives.

He will be missed by me and so many……..

Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Paul Spotts officiating in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Centralia and buried in the parish cemetery.
