Atlas - Dora Lucy (DiCino) Snipkie, 97, formerly of 488 West Girard Street, Atlas, passed away peacefully Friday, December 7, 2018 at Mount Carmel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Dora was born on September 22, 1921 at 118 West Saylor Street, Atlas.  She was the daughter of the late Nicola and Marianna (Calise) DiCino, Italian immigrants from Toricella, Italy.

On October 30, 1943 in Saint Peter's Church, Mount Carmel, she married John V. Snipkie, who preceded her in death on July 27, 1968.

When Dora's husband was no longer able to work due to his declining health, Dora went to work at the Mount Carmel Blouse Factory until they "got on their feet", retiring some 35+ years later.

She cherished the time she spent with her sisters and their families and remained close with her Girard Street neighbors.

Dora enjoyed bus trips to the casinos and playing the daily number, always keeping a little record book of the winning numbers.

She was a member of Divine Redeemer Church, formerly St. Paul's Chapel in Atlas.  She was also a member of the Paulinarians, Ramblers and St. Pauline Center.

Dora is survived by a son, John Snipkie and his wife, Donna, Coal Township; a daughter, Judy Santell and her husband, Greg, of Kulpmont; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Santell) Kehler and her husband, Mark, of Elysburg; Nicole (Santell) Rosko and her husband, Nathan, of Elysburg and Scott Snipkie and his partner, Josette Savidge of Columbia, Missouri.  She is also survived by three great-granddaughters, Emma Rosko, Ava Rosko and Jillian  Kehler, and four great-grandsons, Max Kehler, Colton Rosko, Nathan Rosko and Nolan Snipkie.  Also surviving are her sister, Helen (DiCino) Smith of Danville; one niece and five nephews and their families, whom she cherished very much.

In addition to her husband, John, Dora was preceded in death by an infant sister, Dulance, a brother, Joseph "Bonomo" DiCino; sisters, Florence (DiCino) Staskiel Boslego and Rose (DiCino) Maher.  Also preceding her in death was her long-time companion, Charlie "Gus" Lubeskie.  Dora remained close with Charlie's family, Maryann and Gerald Palovick and their children.

Dora was proud of her granddaughters and grandson, as well as her great grandchildren and their accomplishments. When she would hear of their accomplishments, she would always respond with "that's an honor".  The honor was all ours, Mom - to have you as our mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt friend, neighbor and confidant.  You taught us all many of life's lessons - except one - how to live without you. We can only wish to be half as strong as you were in life.  We will love you and miss you forever...until we meet again.

Dora Lucy Snipkie, 97, of 488 West Girard Street, Atlas - Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 11:00 am in Divine Redeemer Church, 300 West Avenue, Mount Carmel with Father Ryan Fischer, officiating.  Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Mount Carmel.  Viewing will be held Wednesday from 9:00 - 10:45 am with transferal prayers at 10:00 am, in C.
