Dorothy Ann Chesney Klokis, age 97, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024, at Maria Joseph Manor, Assisted Living Facility, in Danville PA, where she lived for the past 2 years. Dorothy was born on April 3, 1926, to the late Clara (Kurland) and William Chesney.

She was a lifelong resident of Kulpmont.  Dorothy loved everything about her town and her Polish ethnicity. She attended St. Casimir's Grade School and graduated from Kulpmont High School in 1943. Briefly after high school, she worked at Westinghouse in Philadelphia. On October 8, 1947, she married Daniel Klokis.

In her early years of marriage, she enjoyed bowling in the Jan Sobieski Bowling League, playing pinochle, knitting, crocheting, reading, and cooking.

As a young mother, she spent many years as a Cub Scout leader, den mother, and Girl Scout leader. In addition to working as a homemaker, Dorothy also worked at (her aunt) Gertrude Kurland's Dress Shoppe in Kulpmont, and later as a full-time employee at a dress factory in Mount Carmel.

During the operating years of Maria Joachim Manor, an assisted living facility in Kulpmont, Dorothy volunteered daily in their activities especially being the caller for the weekly Bingo parties. She also helped serve their meals and visit residents.

Every Tuesday, until her time at Maria Joseph Manor, you could also find Dorothy in Mount Carmel making pierogies!

Dorothy was very active in her Kulpmont community. She was a participant of the Rosary Society, Kulpmont Senior Citizens, Polish Women's Society, Birthright of Sunbury, The International Ladies Garment Workers Union, the Women's Club in Mount Carmel and was the Kulpmont Senior Representative for the Northumberland County for Aging.

As part of Kulpmont Senior Citizens, until the age of 95, and prior to Assisting Living, you could find her every week playing Bingo, going to casinos, or out to lunch. Her close circle of friends would always check in with her daily and this continued until her final days.

Dorothy had boundless energy and her eagerness for volunteerism kept her extremely active in 'all things Kulpmont'.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Klokis, and brothers, Frank (Theresa) Chesney, Vince (Stella) Chesney, Edward (Isabel) Chesney, and her granddaughter, Kelley Syron.

She is survived by her three children: Robert Klokis (Denice) of Gardners, PA, Suzan Klokis Singh (Gurinder) of Fairfax, VA, and Palm City, FL, and Philip Klokis (Brenda) of Purcellville, VA.

She was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Danielle Klokis of Sarasota, FL, Stacy Klokis Fetters of Gardners, PA, Erin Klokis Schultz of Terre Haute, IN, Kelley Syron (deceased), Mackenzie Singh of Brooklyn, NY, Kirsten Klokis of Arlington, VA, Kylie Klokis of Arlington, VA, and Kara Klokis Watts of Keyesville, VA. Six great-grandchildren were also a very special part of her life: Wyatt and Ethan Fetters, Coble and Connor Henderson, Mason and Mia Watts.

Dorothy will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 10:30 AM with Father Andrew Stahmer officiating in the Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott St., Kulpmont. Burial will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Marion Heights. Viewing will be held on Sunday evening from 6 PM. - 8 PM with a rosary starting at 8 PM and Monday morning from 9 AM – 10 AM in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut St. Kulpmont.
