Mount Carmel – Edward J. Kerestes, 94, passed away May 21, 2022 at Mount Carmel Senior Living Community.

He was born on July 21, 1927 in Shamokin, the son of John and Elsie Kerestes.

Edward was the 1945 Valedictorian of Mount Carmel High School. He proudly served in the United States Army. Edward worked for PPL for 40 years as a laborer in the construction department.

He married Shirley Keefer, who preceded him in death in 1998.

Edward was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel, where he served as a former member of the Board of Trustees. He was a Director, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Mount Carmel Cemetery Co. Edward was also a member of the American Legion Post #91, Clover Hose Co., and the longest serving member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #464, Mt. Carmel.

Edward is survived by a son, Ronald Kerestes; brother, Donald Kerestes; grandson, Che Kerestes; and sister-in-law, Carol Kwiatkowski and husband, John. In addition to his parents and wife, Edward was preceded in death by a son, Richard Kerestes.

Edward J. Kerestes, 94, of Mount Carmel – Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Rose Marquardt officiating in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Twp.
