Kulpmont - Elizabeth "Betty" C. Katona, 91, formerly of 1400 Poplar Street, died Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Shamokin on March 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Elizabeth (Sebek) Marcinek. She was a 1945 graduate of Coal Township High School.

On February 1, 1950 in St. Mary's Church, Shamokin she married the late Joseph A. Katona, who preceded her in death on October 1, 2003.

Elizabeth was employed at both Knoebel's Crystal Pool for over forty years and taught tens of thousands to swim, and Mount Carmel High Schoolas a swim coach. She was a volunteeer with the American Red Cross for 75 years.

Elizabeth was a member of the Church of the Holy Angels in Kulpmont

Survivors include three daughters, Paula Davis of Ewing, NJ; Lisa Faust and her husband Jim of Elysburg; and Anne Katona-Linn and her husband Mark Linn of Elysburg; three sons, Thomas C. Katona and his wife Maureen of Wayne; Timothy Katona of Cary, NC and Joseph Katona and his wife Mary of Macungie; son-in-law, Michael Dupnock of Coal Township; fifteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patrice Dupnock on October 18, 2001; one sister, Helen Kurtz and four brothers, Steve Marcinek and his wife Clara, Matthew "Jim" Marcinek and his wife Elizabeth, John Marcinek and his wife Nina and Frank Marcinek and his wife Joan and a son-in-law, Fred Davis.

Elizabeth "Betty" C. Katona, 91, formerly of 1400 Poplar Street, Kulpmont -A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott Street, Kulpmont with Father Andrew Stahmer, officiating.  Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 9:00 am. Viewing will be held Friday evening from 5:30 - 9:00 in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School gymnasium, 2001 Clinton Avenue, Coal Township, PA. A viewing will also be held in the Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott Street, Kulpmont on Saturday morning from 10:00 until the time of mass.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to American Red Cross, 249 Farley Circle, Lewisburg, PA 17837.  C.J.
