Ellen M. (O'Neill) Goretsky, 91, of Kulpmont, passed away on May 24, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

She was born in Shamokin State Hospital on June 12, 1932, the daughter of the late John and Emily (Adams) O'Neill.

Ellen lived in the Mount Carmel area and graduated from Mount Carmel Catholic High School in 1950. On July 18, 1959, she married the late Russell Goretsky at SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church. The couple then relocated to Kulpmont, where they spent 50 years together until his passing in 2010. During her time in Kulpmont, Ellen held the position of account specialist at the former Susquehanna Bank.

Ellen was active in the SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church community. She contributed her talents by singing in the church choir, assisting with pierogi-making, fulfilling duties as a church lector, and participating in the Ladies Holy Rosary Society. In addition to her involvement in church activities, Ellen was a very talented cook and shared her expertise by teaching Pysanky egg painting. Furthermore, she was a past president of the Kulpmont Legion Auxiliary.

Ellen is survived by two daughters, MaryBeth Goretsky and husband, Dr. Richard Greco, and Kristine Duran and husband, Michael; a son, Russel A. Goretsky; six grandchildren, Brandon Goretsky, Russell Goretsky, Lauren Apichell, Elijah Duran, Kelsey Goretsky, and Mason Duran; a great-grandchild, Ever J. Apichell; as well as various nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Ellen was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Kovaleski; and a brother, John O'Neill.

Divine Liturgy will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Very Reverend Archpriest Michael Hutsko officiating in the SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 131 N Beech St, Mt Carmel. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held in the Church on Monday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the Divine Liturgy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church.
