Marion Heights – Evo Joseph "Shabe" Coroniti, 96, of 401 North Street, passed away on November 22, 2022 at Mount Carmel Senior Living Community, Mt. Carmel after a brief illness.

He was born in Marion Heights on July 11, 1926, the son of Ferdinand Vito and Rose (Rainal) Coroniti.

Evo earned a Bachelor's Degree from La Salle University, Philadelphia. He enlisted with the Merchant Marines under the US Army and served in the European Theater then he traveled through the Panama Canal to the Pacific. He was a proud World War II veteran who served his county from November 1944 – November 1945. On March 14, 2020, legislation was signed into law authorizing the Congressional Gold Medal for American Merchant Mariners whose honorable deeds played a critical role in WWII. In September of 2022 Evo received his replica WWII Congressional Gold Medal. The Congressional Gold Medal, which is the highest honor bestowed by the U. S. Congress, honors those whose dedication, heroism and public service have created a lasting impact on American History. Evo was self-employed contractor who owned and operated E. Joseph Coroniti Contracting and Building in Marion Heights. After his retirement he traveled extensively with his wife and family visiting 33 different countries and 48 states.

On January 30, 1960, he married the former Olga "Cookie" Machoskie in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Marion Heights.

Evo was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and most recently Church of the Holy Angels. He was a member of the American Legion in Kulpmont and a life member of the Marion Heights Fire Co. Evo was an avid fan of Phillies baseball, the Eagles, and Penn State Football. He adored his faithful companion, Rocky, his dog.

Evo is survived by his wife, Olga Coroniti; daughter, Dr. Lisa Coroniti; son, Ronald Coroniti; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Evo was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Coroniti; four brothers, Samuel Coroniti, Fred Coroniti, Edward Coroniti, and Arthur Coroniti; and three sisters, Helen Tropiano Manderachi, Anita DePaul, and Elizabeth Ferraro. He was the last immediate member of his family. The family would like to acknowledge the military service of Fred, Edward, and Arthur who all proudly served their country during World War II.

The Coroniti family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Mount Carmel Senior Living Community for their compassionate care and attention to detail.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Andrew Stahmer as celebrant in the Church of the Holy Angels, Kulpmont. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery, Marion Heights. Viewing will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service at 8 p.m. and Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hillside SPCA, PO Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901, the SPCA of your choice, or Mostly Mutts, 284 Little Mountain Rd., Sunbury, PA 17801.
