Den Mar Gardens – Gregory John Schoffler, 68, passed away at home,113 Virginia Lane on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 with his wife Lenette and step-son, Joshua at his side.

He was born on December 2, 1952, the son of the late Jerome and Irene (Coroniti) Schoffler. He grew up on 511 East Fifth Street, Mt. Carmel, where he achieved the prestigious award of Eagle Scout and received formal childhood education in the Mt. Carmel Public Schools and an informal education at Smokey's Candy Shop and Card Parlor.

Greg, as he was known to family, friends, and colleagues, graduated as President of his class at Mount Carmel Area and with honors in 1971, but along with academics was an outstanding athlete for the Red Tornadoes. Greg was a member of the 1968, 1969, and 1970 MCA Football teams, which many refer to as the golden age of Red Tornado Football. Greg was also a member of the Big Red Wrestling team during his high school career.

Greg went on to post-secondary education attending Kings College in Wilkes-Barre where he majored in Political Science and graduated in 1974 earning Summa Cum Laude Honors for his efforts.

He returned to his hometown, where after a brief employment as the most successful bartender in the history of the Blue Haven Bar and a Substitute Teacher with the Mount Carmel Area School District, he accepted employment with Northumberland County in Planning Development and Grant Writing. For more than 4 decades Greg was literally responsible for obtaining millions of dollars for Northumberland County and peripheral agencies.

In 1983, during his tenure with Northumberland County, he had the good fortune to meet the love of his life, Lenette, who on April 04, 2002 accepted his offer for life together. Although Greg had many accomplishments, he would be the first to say, getting Lenette and her son Joshua, was his greatest.

Along with his employment and family commitments, Greg was very involved with the community. He was a Past Master of the Cedar Lodge #378, Mount Carmel, a member of the Mount Carmel Eagles, Mount Carmel Nuggets, Mount Carmel Borough Planning Commission, Member of the Pennsylvania Young Democrats, and Mount Carmel Borough Democratic Committee.

It should be noted for the record that Mr. Schoffler was a member of the prestigious Steam Pipe Hunting Camp, where as its 26th member was the chief cook and bottle washer, where he received many accolades, but also was criticized on a few occasions for having too many greens on the table.

In conclusion, Greg enjoyed a good libation and accompanied with great conversation which always included the "untold story." He was well known among his peers as the master soupie and wine maker, and all that ate his Italian dishes were more than satisfied and those who didn't will never have this delectable opportunity. Greg always wanted a lot of gifts to be open during the holidays and spared no expense to make everyone happy on Christmas morning. He found the simplest pleasure spending time with Lenette and Joshua at her father-in-law's cabin in the Wellsboro Area, Casino road trips, and finally later in life discovering cruises on the high seas with their close friends.

Gregory is survived by his wife, Lenette Schoffler of Kulpmont; son, Joshua Corona of Kulpmont; two brothers, Fabian Schoffler and wife, Georgene and children, Brooke Stello, god child, Paige Schoffler and Dustin Schoffler, his partner in crime and wife, Mackenzie, of Mount Carmel and Jerome Schoffler and children, Andrew Schoffler, and Jerome Schoffler Jr. and wife, Joy; of TX; a brother-in-law, Ronald Corona and wife, Marcella of Mount Carmel; two sisters-in-law, Donna Pullen and husband, Dan of TN and Daria Reed and husband, Jim of Mount Carmel; and two great-nephews, Stone Schoffler and Oaken Schoffler. In addition to his parents, Gregory was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leonard and Veronica (Visnosky) Corona.

Gregory John Schoffler, 68, of 113 Virginia Lane, Mt. Carmel Twp. – Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021 in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine Street, Mt. Carmel with Rev. Joan Brown, officiating. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Visitation will be held in the Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
