Northumberland – Hedwig B. (Kowalewski) Schramm, of 58 Neitz Road, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2020, surrounded by family.

Born on February 24, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Helen (Zbitski) Kowalewski.

Hedy graduated from Mt. Carmel Area High School in 1945. Over the years she lived and raised her family in Bloomsburg, Natalie, Mt. Carmel, and Danville. Outside the home she worked in banking, healthcare, as a seamstress, an entrepreneur, a cosmetologist and, in her later years, she was a dedicated and loving caregiver to young children. Hedy was a gifted soprano, a wonderful cook, a keen shopper, an expert speller, and an avid pinochle player – always willing to "try 20"!  One of her greatest joys and satisfactions was being the beloved matriarch of the family, mother of four children, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She loved visiting with her family and friends.

Hedy is survived by her son, Mark Schramm, and his wife, Mollie of Venice, FL; three daughters, Kathie Berard of Burlington, VT;  Jude Kurtz and her husband Gary, of Danville, PA; Susan Barnes and her husband  Don, of Goldvein, VA;  a grandson, Matthew Schramm and his wife Julie; four granddaughters Nicole Hershberg and her husband Michael, Elizabeth DiIorio and her husband Joseph, Claudia Paolinelli and Natalie Paolinelli;  five great-grandsons, William, Zackary, Cody, Jett and Gunnar and two great-granddaughters: Ava and Jaida. She leaves two beloved brothers, Paul Kovaleweski and his wife Mary Daisy and Joseph Kovaleski,  and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Hedy was predeceased by two sisters and their spouses: Rita and Michael Staschak and Jean and John Rosiniski and her sister-in-law Patricia Kovaleski.

Hedwig B. (Kowalewski) Schramm, of 58 Neitz Road, Northumberland - Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. (Doors will open at 12:00 p.m.) in Divine Redeemer Church, 300 West Ave., Mt. Carmel with Father Ryan Fischer officiating. Burial will follow in Our Mother of Consolation Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Twp. Viewing will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. with transferal prayers at 11:15 a.m. in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 North Vine Street, Mt.
