KULPMONT — Helene V. Niglio, 95, of 711 Spruce St., passed away Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Nottingham Village, in Northumberland.

She was born March 19, 1930, a daughter of Stanley and Sophie (Olvany) Sylko.

Helene attended St. Casimir's Elementary School and Kulpmont High School.

She worked as a seamstress.

She was married to the late Paul A. Niglio, who preceded her in death June 25, 2016.

Helene was a very active member of Church of the Holy Angels, in Kulpmont. She served as president of The Legion of Mary rosary group at the parish, sang in the church choir for Sunday Mass and funeral Masses and also volunteered at church bingo and the church picnic. She taught CCD classes for many years as she truly enjoyed teaching children about religion and praying the Rosary. Helene was also a member of the West End Fire Co.and the Kulpmont American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed playing pinochle and going on bus trips to Atlantic City. Above all, she will always be remembered for her delicious pierogies — she certainly was "the Queen!"

Helene is survived by three sons, Paul Niglio Jr. and wife, Stephanie, of Kulpmont, Stanley Niglio, of Kulpmont, and Robert Joseph Niglio and his wife, Trish, of Elysburg; five grandchildren, Tara Michaels and her husband, David, Stephen Niglio, Nina Ankney and her husband, Chad, Rachel Bunton and her husband, Patrick, and Cassandra Niglio and her fiance, Jayson Stellar; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helene was preceded in death by her son, Frank "Dabby" Niglio and his wife, Denise; two brothers, Stanley and John Sylko; and two sisters, Genevieve Zulick and Eleanor Sylko.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott St., Kulpmont, with Father Andrew Stahmer as celebrant. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation, but all are welcome to join for the rosary in the church starting at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
