James Gerard Dwane, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the age of 81 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

He was born in Limerick, Ireland, on February 8, 1937, to the late John "Jack" Dwane and Mary Storn Dwane.

The youngest of nine children, he spent his childhood in the Janesboro district of Limerick, which he fondly referred to as "the Boro".  He immigrated to England in 1956.

Jim married Maria in 1969 and they immigrated to America on the Queen Mary a year later.

After six months in Connecticut, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served three years, mainly in Europe.

When his service ended, he returned to Maria, then living in Brooklyn, New York.  After five years they moved to Mount Carmel and in 1973, they moved to Kulpmont.

Jim was an employee with Tri-State Envelope Corp. in Ashland for 34 years before retiring in 1996.

Jim and Maria lived in the coal region for over 40 years before moving to Cary, North Carolina, in 2011, to be near their daughter and son-in-law.

They were married for 58 years until Maria's passing in January 2018.

Jim was a lover of travel, a master storyteller and had a witty response ready for every occasion.  He enjoyed spending time with family and he would always welcome sharing a beer, especially if Notre Dame was playing.

Jim is survived by his son, Robert Dwane, and his wife, Maribeth of Southwick, MA; his daughters, Anne Bogovich and her husband, Mark of Cary, NC and Helen Hauer and her husband Aaron, of Reston, VA; his grandchildren, Bridie Rose Dwane, Olivia Anne Hauer and Jack James Hauer.  Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Leone Dwane; his brothers, Andrew, John and Bernard; and his sisters, Mary, Evelyn, Josephine, Brenda "Bridie" and Helen.

FUNERAL NOTICE

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 29,2018 at 12:30 pm in the Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott Street, Kulpmont with Father Andrew Stahmer, officiating.  Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Transitions LifeCare Hospice, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC  27607 or Alzheimer's Foundation of American, 322 Eighth Avenue,  New York, NY  10001.
