Kulpmont – James J. Thomas, 76, of 1540 Chestnut St., passed away suddenly on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

He was born in Shamokin Hospital on October 3, 1945, the son of Joseph and Ann (Midway) Thomas.

James was raised in Shamokin. He was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School, class of 1963. James proudly served his country in the United States Army 1 ^st Calvary during Vietnam conflict. He had a lifelong career with the U. S. Postal Service for 44 years.

On May 5, 1973, he married Barbara A. Pipp in St. Mary's Church, Kulpmont. They moved to Kulpmont and raised their family, sharing 49 years of marriage.

James was a member of Church of the Holy Angels, where he volunteered to help at many parish activities. James was a sports enthusiast and an avid golfer.

James was survived by his wife, Barbara A. Thomas of Kulpmont; two sons, Michael Thomas and Danielle of Carneys Point, NJ and Jason Thomas and wife, Amanda of Carneys Point, NJ; five grandchildren, Olivia, Allie, Kayla, Alexander, and Joshua; two brothers, Joseph Thomas of Tucson, AZ and Richard Thomas of Paxinos; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Bednar.

FUNERAL NOTICE

James J. Thomas, 76, of 1540 Chestnut St., Kulpmont – Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11 a.m. with Father Andrew Stahmer officiating in the Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott St., Kulpmont. Family and friends are asked to gather for the Mass starting at 10:45 a.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in care of C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc. 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, Malcom C. Farrow IV, supervisor.
