Kulpmont – Heaven gained the most beautiful, magnificent Angel imaginable when our precious Mother  & Nana, Jean Ann (Lacusky) Blugis, left us on the morning of April, 11, 2024.  Our beloved Matriarch was surrounded by her loving family and in her home where countless special memories were made over several decades. While our hearts are shattered, we take comfort knowing that she is now happily reunited with her husband, Adolph and her son, Tony, who tragically passed a mere 19 days before his adoring Mom.

The world became a brighter place when Jean was born in Shenandoah, PA on May 21, 1938. The beautiful baby girl with the golden curls was the daughter of Fred and Anna (Strasdowski) Lacusky.   Her very first smile to her very last smile was truly a gift to behold.  This fantastically gorgeous woman with a tremendously large heart of pure gold, was truly remarkable.  She was so intelligent, kind, selfless, warm and caring, wise, generous, funny, fun, quick witted, courageous and fiercely loyal.  With tears and smiles, her children and grandchildren will cherish the outpouring of loving tributes about Jean.  To know her was to truly love her.  Her home and heart were yours if you were blessed to be in her company.  She was a second Mother and Nana to a legion of people who share the deep pain of her loss.  The gift of Jean is something that will warm the hearts of many for the remainder of their lives.

Jean was a 1957 graduate of Shenandoah High School. Two years later, on May 2nd, she married her lifelong sweetheart, the late Adolph Blugis in St. George's Catholic Church, in Shenandoah. The picture of the stunning bride dancing with her handsome groom is a sight to behold.    They celebrated 58 years of marriage one month before she lost her beloved, "Sonny."

Prior to moving to Kulpmont 55 years ago, Jean and her husband made memories early on living in Collegeville, Somerset, Norristown, and Williamsport.  They grew to become a family of six and Jean was the heart and soul of their household.   Her most coveted role in life was being a Mom to her daughter and three sons and she was phenomenal.  She dedicated herself to being a full time Mom and from elementary school on she was there for any school or extracurricular activity her children participated in. Her heartbreak at leaving her children as they started college was palpable. She had the same  passion and devotion for her grandchildren.  She was the gold medalist when it came to the I Love You More game with her babies and grandbabies.  The phrase, I love You to the Moon & Back, was the very essence of this Earth Angel.

Early in her marriage, Jean worked as an administrative assistant in a dental office and when her children were older, she returned to work in retail at the local Hi-Lo Store in Kulpmont. Sales soared when the she joined that team because  her family still hears stories from customers who loved seeing her while they shopped.  She was disarmingly charming and that big sunshine smile worked its magic.

Jean was a woman who possessed many talents and had a passion for music and dance.   It was not in her nature to tout her accomplishments so most people do not know that she danced her way to American Bandstand in Philadelphia.  She was an outstanding  cheerleading coach and devoted time to coaching her daughter's cheerleading squad while her sons simultaneously played football for the Kulpmont Cougars.  Jean supported her husband's career in law enforcement and became a lifelong member of the Auxiliary To The Retired State Police Association of Pennsylvania. And finally, she enjoyed and indulged in all the things that her children and grandchildren loved.

Jean's spirituality was a driving force in her life and her devotion to her faith held her up during the darkest moments of pain and loss that she experienced. She  was a devoted member of The Church of The Holy Angels where she also volunteered her time as a Eucharistic Minister.  She especially enjoyed making house calls to parishioners who were ill and unable to attend  a service.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Ann Blugis Cooke and husband, Curtis of Northumberland; two sons, Adam Blugis and wife, Sharon of MD, Christopher Blugis and wife, Lori of Cressona; grandchildren, Collin, Myles, Alexa, Jordan, Sarah, and Daniel; and a great-grandson, Breccan; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her youngest son, Anthony Blugis; and her siblings, Charles Lacusky, Dorothy Schultz, Clarence Lacusky and Alberta Lacusky.

Jean A. (Lacusky) Blugis, 85, of Kulpmont – Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at noon with Father Andrew Stahmer officiating in the Church of the Holy Angels, Kulpmont. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Shenandoah. Viewing will be held on Friday morning in the Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
