Mount Carmel – Jean Barbara (Williams) Varano, 92, of 300 S. Market St., passed away peacefully at her residence on July 4, 2025.

She was born on February 25, 1933, in Shamokin, a daughter of the late Clayton P. and Eva M. (Todorovich) Williams.

Jean was a 1951 graduate of Mount Carmel High School and was employed by the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania.

On July 21, 1956, she married the late Robert L. Varano at the First Methodist Church in Mount Carmel. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage until his passing on June 2, 2020.

Jean faithfully attended Hope Community Church in Mount Carmel. She was also active in the Federation of Women's Clubs and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Jean is survived by two children, Attorney Wendy L. Cole and her husband, Dr. Charles Cole Jr., and Attorney Robert K. Varano and his wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Dr. Charles Cole III, Dr. Andrea (Dr. Brandon) Smith, Attorney Emily Cole, Dr. Daniel (Kylee) Cole, Adam (Madison) Cole, Attorney Robert (Dr. Cara) Varano, Dr. Alison Varano, Nicole Varano, Garrett Varano; as well as three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a brother, Adam "Ace" Williams, and two sisters, Coralea Williams and Joan Orr.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Public Library, 30 S. Oak St., Mt.
