ATLAS - Joan Scicchitano Duda, 77, of Atlas, cherished mother and Nonna, sadly left this Earth on September 10, 2022 to be embraced by the Lord.

Joanie was the daughter of Guido Scicchitano and Teresa (Tomedi) Scicchitano. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Romaine Scicchitano and Jeanie (Scicchitano) Hancock.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ron Duda, with whom she celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary on February 12, 2022. Devoted mother of two daughters – Janel (Rob) Stahlnecker, Hughesville, PA, and Maria (Brent) Kelchner, Elysburg, PA. Grandchildren – Devin, Braden, Aleah, and Nick (Brittany) Stahlnecker and great grandson Nolan. Joanie also loved her dear nieces Justine Hancock, Guidyne Little, and Bobbi Weaver and their children.

Joanie received her associates degree in Cosmetology in 1964 and owned her own business in Mt. Carmel for 50 years. She loved her profession and spending time with her loyal customers. Those who truly knew Joanie, a breast cancer survivor of 37 years, would universally describe her as an incredibly selfless human being as she dedicated most of her adult life as a caregiver for her husband, making personal sacrifices to ensure that her daughters never went without.

She was a devout Catholic who taught CCD classes for several years, pledging countless hours of her life toward Christian acts of kindness for missionaries, church, and humanitarian functions. She was also a member of the Third Order Carmelites and spent significant time at the Carmelite Monastery in Elysburg.

Joanie also enjoyed shopping, reading, arts & crafts, crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, and General Hospital. However, her most gratifying time was spent with her precious family that meant the world to her.

Joanie was known for her "wit", but most of all, she was our Angel on Earth who always took care of her family, devoted her time with random acts of kindness, and placed others' needs before her own. She will always be "our sunshine" and endlessly loved by all her family.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. with Father Bernard Wamayose, A J officiating in Divine Redeemer Church, Mount Carmel. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Twp. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc, 27 N. Vine St, Mt. Carmel, C. J. Lucas IV supervisor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Susan G.
