Atlas – Joan M. (Smelter) Ferrari, 91, of 461 W. Saylor St., passed away February 4, 2026, at Mountain View Rehabilitation and Senior Living Center.

She was born on March 29, 1934, in Edgewood, MD, the daughter of Joseph J. and Martha T. (Novack) Smelter.

Joan was a lifelong resident of Mount Carmel and Atlas. She graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1952. Joan worked as a clerk at Ames for 19 years.

On March 6, 1954, she married the late Leo H. Ferrari in St. Joseph's Church, Mt. Carmel.

Joan was a member of St. Paul's Chapel in Atlas, now known as Divine Redeemer Church in Mt. Carmel. She was a member of the Life Geisinger in Kulpmont and was an avid Bingo player.

Joan is survived by two sons, Leo J. Ferrari and Paul (Kathy) Ferrari; a daughter, Debroah (James) Jarrell; three grandchildren, Melissa (John) Dunlop, Cassandra Mace, and Jessy Lynn Stancavage; two great-grandchildren, Madison Dunlop and Gavin Dunlop; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Mace; a brother, Leonard J. Smelter; and a sister, Irene Smelter.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 14th, at 11 a.m. with Father Bernard Wamayose, AJ, and Father Andrew Stahmer concelebrating in Divine Redeemer Church, 300 W. Ave., Mt. Carmel. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Twp. Viewing will be held on Saturday, February 14th, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. with Transferal prayers at 10 a.m. in the C J Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mt.
