Mount Carmel - It is with deep, and heavy sadness that we announce the death of John "Chunky" Chesney, 78, of 801 West Fifth Street.  He passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 at home after a lingering battle with illness.

Born in Shamokin on June 26, 1939 he was the son of the late John B. and Sophie (Staskiel) Chesney. He was a 1956 graduate of Mount Carmel High School as was employed as a dispatcher for Packaging Resources

John truly lived life to the fullest, and enjoyed it through simple pleasures like: a great tee shot, an ace on his serve, and a winning hand in cards.  He liked chatting with friends, enjoying a good meal, and spending time with family and loved ones.  He always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips.  The legacy of his kind spirit, and zest for life will live on through his family and friends, who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.

Survivors include two sons, John Allen Chesney and his wife Mary Ellen of VA and Jeffrey Chesney and his wife Rachael of Elysburg; two daughters, Jennifer Koveleskie (twin sister to Jeffrey) of Mount Carmel and Jill Gillotti and her husband Jeffrey of Kulpmont; lifelong friend, Roseann Chesney of Mount Carmel; four grandsons, Justin Chesney and his wife Carisa Tsiris, Nicholas Chesney, Derek Chesney and Jacob Gillotti; one granddaughter, Lydia Chesney; one sister, Patricia Evert of East Norriton; one nephew, David Evert. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a niece, Denise Evert.

FUNERAL NOTICE

John "Chunky" Chesney, 78 of 801 West Fifth Street, Mount Carmel - Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 11:00 am in Our Mother of Consolation Cemetery, Mount Carmel Township with Father Francis Karwacki, officiating.  Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 9:30 - 11:00 in the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home, Inc., 27 North Vine Street, Mount Carmel, C.J. Luca IV, Supervisor.  In lieu of flowers, if you knew "Chunky", go and enjoy 18 holes of golf.  He would have liked that.
