ELYSBURG — John J. Curran, 100, of 37 Pine Ave., passed away June 29, 2022, at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Sunbury.

He was born at home in Wilburton on Jan. 12, 1922, the son of John and Sara (Wolfgang) Curran.

John was employed as a carpenter for General Electric. He proudly served in the 83rd Infantry Division, United States Army, during World War II.

In June 1946, he married Dorothy Homanick in Ss. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Mount Carmel. Together, the two shared 76 years of marriage.

John was a member of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church.

John is survived by his wife, Dorothy Curran of Elysburg; son, Dennis Curran of Trevorton; daughter, Janet Steele and husband, Ralph, of Elysburg; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph Curran, Bernard Curran, Charles Curran, and Robert Curran; three sisters, Marie, Anna, and Margaret.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Father Joseph Scanlin officiating in the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, 599 W. Center St. Elysburg. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. A viewing will be held prior to the Mass from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Parish Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, 599 W. Center St., Elysburg, PA 17824. Arrangements are in care of C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N.
