John "Jack" Edward Verkoski, age 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with cancer in Fairfax, Va. He was born on October 7, 1940, in Mt. Carmel, PA, to the late John E. and Phyllis (Zelinski) Verkoski

He attended Catholic school through the eighth grade and was an altar boy. He left Catholic school to pursue his love of sports at public school, where he played football, track, and basketball. He was captain of the track and basketball team his senior year. He graduated from high school and went on to attend Penn State University, where he studied Engineering. He graduated from American University and received a Master's degree in public administration.

He met the love of his life, Kathleen (Shovlin) Verkoski, and they were married on April 24, 1965, then moved to Fairfax, VA, and had a daughter, Karen.

Jack worked for the Department of Defense and DARPA and retired in 2001 from the Senior Executive Program (SP10) where he worked on the Trident Missile Program.

Jack enjoyed playing golf with his friends and fly fishing with his dad.

Jack was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Shovlin) Verkoski and a loving and devoted father of Karen Verkoski.

John "Jack" Edward Verkoski, 84, Fairfax, VA - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18th at 10 AM at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 13807 Poplar Tree Way, Chantilly, VA. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 22nd, at 1:00 pm at St. Mary's Cemetery, Beaverdale, PA. Graveside arrangements are entrusted to C J Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mt.
