Mount Carmel – John J. "Jack" Coleman, 90, of 431 N. Chestnut St. passed away April 18, 2023, at Mountain View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Coal Twp.

He was born on June 19, 1932, in Mount Carmel, a son of the late John and Mary (Swaboski) Coleman.

Jack was employed by the Shamokin – Mount Carmel News Item for 40 years, when the paper was an afternoon edition. After retirement he worked for C. J. Lucas Funeral Home as a driver and pallbearer for several years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and lector. After the consolidation of the churches, he became a member and usher at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

On March 3, 1979, he married his best friend, Margaret "Marge" Nolter in St. Peter's Church.

Jack was an avid sports fan following Mount Carmel area sports and the St. Louis Cardinals major league baseball team. In his younger years he played fast pitch softball, bowled, and coached little league baseball.

Surviving is his wife, Marge; son, Brian and his wife, Brittany of Philadelphia; daughter, Mary Jo of Palmyra and her fiancé, Mike Muscarella of Lititz; sister, Mary Ann Fischer of MD; sister-in-law, Theresa Coleman of Mt. Carmel; brother-in-law, Paul Nolter and Kathy Kuzma; sister-in-law, Ginny Williams and her husband, Mark; brother-in-law, Bob Nolter and his wife, Shelly; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Nolter; sister-in-law, Lori Shannon and her husband, Francie; sister-in-law, Helen Nolter and John Semanchick; brother-in-law, Bernie Nolter and Nikki Cole; as well as several cousin, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Sipple and her husband, Bob; brother-in-law, Bill Fischer; brother, Ronnie Coleman; sister-in-law, Terri Coleman; and a niece, Denise (Coleman) Lenchak.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 11 a.m. with Father Francis Karwacki officiating in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mt. Carmel. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Twp. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service at 8 p.m. in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mt. Carmel, C. J. Lucas IV, Supervisor. There will be no visitation on Monday morning and all attending the Mass are asked to arrive at Church at 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 47 S. Market St., Mt. Carmel, PA 17851, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the Mount Carmel Area Public Library at 30 S. Oak Street, Mt. Carmel, PA 17851.
