Marion Heights – John J. Zenyuch, 95, of Marion Heights, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Serenity Gardens Personal Care Home in Kulpmont, where he was a guest since Dec. 30, 2021.

He was born in Marion Heights on August 6, 1926, a son of the late George and Anna (Kurtz) Zenyuch. John attended Stevens Public School in Marion Heights and Kulpmont High School.

On May 3, 1952, he married Therese Anne Petro in Our Lady of Perpetual Help church, Marion Heights. They shared 68 years happily together until her passing on December 15, 2020.

John was a member of the Patronage of the Mother of God Church in Marion Heights. He entered the Marine Corps on January 18, 1944, where he served in the Pacific Area in World War II and China Occupation with the

1 ^st Marine Division.  He was honorably discharged on August 25, 1946.  John reenlisted Jan 14, 1948.  He served in the European Theater as a Marine Embassy Guard in London, Paris, and Rome.  He also served in the Caribbean area until his honorable discharge Jan 13, 1952. He was awarded the following medals: Asiatic Pacific, American Theatre, China Service, Good Conduct, World War II Victory, and Expert Rifleman. John served in the Marine Corps reserve from Oct. 21, 1954, until honorably discharged on October 20, 1958.  He worked for the Gulf Oil Co. in Elizabeth, NJ until returning to Marion Heights in 1959 to become a partner in Zenuch Bros. Service Station in Berry's, Coal Twp.  He later worked as a security guard for Geisinger Medical Center, Danville until his retirement in 1991.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pinochle, telling jokes, remembering everyone's birthday, and taking rides in the country. In retirement, he and Therese attended many memorable reunions of the London Marine Corps Detachment. John was a member of: American Legion Post 231, Kulpmont; VFW Post 8254, Kulpmont; Marine Corps League Black Diamond Detachment #846; Marine Division Association; China Marines; Catholic War Veterans Post 1277, Marion Heights; Marion Heights Fire Co; and Keiser Gun Club.

John is survived by five children, Claudia Niezgoda of Shavertown, Susan Kinger and her husband, John of Marion Heights, Mark Zenyuch and his wife, Marianne, of Bear Gap, Cynthia Eby and her husband Randy, of Paxinos and John Zenyuch and his wife Marcie, of Texas; seven grandchildren, Randy Eby and his wife, Darla, Maria Dalesandro and her husband Bryan, Corey Kinger, Michael Niezgoda and his wife, Lisa, Christopher Zenyuch and  his wife, Victoria, Caitlin Kinger, Katharine Niezgoda and her husband, Rahul Bharucha; a step grandchild, Rebecca; three step-grandchildren, Shiane, Garrett, and Kaine; six great-grandchildren, Ginny, Jack, Will, Jillian, Matty and Aurora; three great step grandchildren, Jaelyn, Layne and Tegan; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Zenuch  and Julia Zenyuch; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Therese; five sisters, Mary Ritzko, Anne Countryman, Sophie Rusinko, Catherine Hornberger, and Roselle Zenyuch; six brothers, George Zenyuch, Michael Zanuck, Joseph Zenyuch, Myron Zenyuch, Andrew Zenuch, and Edward Zenyuch; and a son-in-law, Paul Niezgoda. He was the last member of his immediate family.

John's family would like to thank the staff at Serenity Gardens Personal Care Home, Advantage Home Health and Hospice, and Geisinger at Home for their kind, compassionate, and loving care.

John J. Zenyuch, 95, of Marion Heights – Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 27, 2022 at 11 a.m. with Father Mykola Ivanov officiating in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, Malcom C. Farrow IV, Supervisor. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Viewing will be held in the Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
