Mount Carmel – Joseph P. Bernatovich, 68, of Mount Carmel, passed away on October 19, 2023, at his residence.

He was born in Shamokin Hospital on August 7, 1955, the son of the late Bernard and Rita (Szymanski) Bernatovich.

Joseph was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School, class of 1973. He played on the 1972 Eastern Conference Championship Mount Carmel football team. In 1978, he graduated with a Liberal Arts Degree from Villanova University.

He was a member of Our Mother of Consolation Church, now known as Divine Redeemer Church.

Joseph is survived by a brother, Philip of Mt. Carmel. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dr. Michael S. Bernatowicz.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Father Bernard Wamayose, A.J. officiating in Divine Redeemer Church, Mt. Carmel. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. with transferal prayers at 10 a.m. in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27. N. Vine St., Mt. Carmel, C. J. Lucas IV, Supervisor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Divine Redeemer Church, 438 W. Ave., Mt. Carmel, PA 17851.
