Wilburton - Joseph Cheddar, 80, of 215 Greco Lane, died Saturday, October 21, 2017 as the result of a motor vehicle collision in Conyngham Township.

Born in Centralia on September 4, 1937, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Evankovich) Cheddar.  He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a 1955 graduate of Con-Cen High School.

Joseph retired in 1996 from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a highway worker.

He was an avid football fan of the Pittsburg Steelers and Penn State and a Yankees baseball fan; he also was an avid car collector and was devoted to his family.

He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; Past Commander of Centralia/Wilburton American Legion, VFW and Clover Hose Fire Company both of Mount Carmel and Wilburton Fire Company #1.

He served with the US Air Force from June 28, 1955 until he was discharged on June 27, 1963, serving as an airplane mechanic, he attained the rank of A/1C and received the Good Conduct Medal.

Survivors include one son, Paul and his wife Lisa of Gordon; a grandson Christopher Cunningham of Hegins; a sister, Mary Concavage of Newark, DE; a brother, Charles and his wife Jeanne of Port Reading, NJ; three nieces, Deborah Concavage, Donna Jean Concavage and Christina Berk; two nephews, John Cheddar and Jason Concavage; four great nephews and one great niece as well as aunts, an uncle and cousins.

Joseph Cheddar, 80, of 215 Greco Lane, Wilburton - Divine Liturgy will be celebrated Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 10:00 am in SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 131 North Beech Street, Mount Carmel with Very Reverend Archpriest Michael Hutsko, officiating.  Burial will be in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 2:00 pm.  Viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 and Thursday morning from 8:30 - 9:45 with Panakhyda at 9:15 in the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home, Inc., 27 North Vine Street, Mount Carmel, C.J.
