Hartford, CT – Joseph R. Varano, 72, of 2 Park Place, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021 at his residence.

He was born in Shamokin Hospital on July 13, 1948, the son of the late Joseph N. and Patricia (Mellowship) Varano.

Joseph was a 1966 graduate of Mount Carmel High School, 1969 graduate of the GMC School of X-Ray Technology, 1973 graduate of Alderson Broaddus College where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Science, and 1986 graduate of the University of Hartford where he earned a Master of Science Degree.

He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph's Church, CT and the Church of the Holy Angels, Kulpmont. He was also a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, founding member of the Society of Physician Assistants in Pediatrics, former President of the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants, fellow member and past President of the Connecticut Academy of Physician Assistants, Delegate to the House of Delegates for the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and an associate member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses and the Connecticut Association of Neonatal Nurses.

Joseph is survived by his sister, Deborah Shearn and husband, John of Frackville; a brother, Kevin Varano and companion, Joanne Hangen of Lancaster; two nephews, John Shearn and Tim Shearn; a niece, Rebekah Shearn; three great nieces, Jossi, Madi, and Morgan Shearn; as well as many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joseph R. Varano, of Hartford, CT – Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, PA with Father Andrew Stahmer officiating. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg.
