Mount Carmel - Joseph T. Zinda, 93, 140 Oak Lane, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017, at the Mount Carmel Nursing Center.

Born February 11, 1924, in Wilburton #1 to the late Michael and Stephania "Stella" (Wowak) Zinda, he was the 13th of 14 children.

After graduating from Conyngham Township High School, he entered the U.S. Army in 1943 during WWII.  Joe participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy.  He later served as Staff Sergeant and was seriously wounded in action in Belgium, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal.

After his recuperation at home, he met the love of his life, Julia Sobiski. they were married on November 30, 1946 in St. Ignatius Church, Centralia, where they lived and raised their family, until relocating to Oak Ridge Estates in 1986.  They celebrated 59 years of marriage until her passing in 2005.

Joe was employed by the Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown, and later, the Tobyhanna Army Depot where he was a power ground technician until his retirement.  He loved visiting with his family, spending time with friends at the American Legion, taking care of his home and cars, and inventing his own fixes for anything needing repair.  He also enjoyed bus trips to the casino.

He was a member or Divine Redeemer Church.

Joseph is survived by three daughters, Lorraine Tucker and husband Ken, CA, Joanne Pheasant and husband Kent, Sunbury, and Carol Huben and husband Michael, Bloomsburg; six grandchildren, Lori Waltman and husband Darrell, CA, Shelly Pinon, CA, Pamela Pheasant, Harrisburg, Kyle Pheasant, State College, Karen Wells and husband Ben, VA, and Ingrid Huben, Bloomsburg; nine great-grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, Brittney, Matthew, Ronnie, Johnny, Noah, Adam and Sammy; great-great grandsons, Kaleb and Kaden. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Michael, Stanley, Anthony, and Frank; nine sisters, Edna, Mary, Anna, Stella, Michaeline, Verna, Elizabeth, Eleanor, and Cecelia.  Also several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Joseph T. Zinda, 93, of 140 Oak Lane, Mount Carmel - Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 10:30 am in Divine Redeemer Church, 300 West Avenue, Mount Carmel with Father Martin Moran, officiating.  Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap.  Viewing will be held Wednesday, prior to Mass, at 8:30 am at C. J. Lucas Funeral Home, Inc., 27 North Vine Street, Mount Carmel, C. J.
