Mount Carmel – Joyce A. (Galley) Zavarick, 78, of 214 S. Grape St., passed away on April 17, 2023, surrounded by her family at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville where she was hospitalized since March 12, 2023.

She was born in Shamokin on January 5, 1945, the daughter of the late George and Elsie (Nacewicz) Galley.

Joyce was a life-long resident of Mount Carmel. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Grade School and Mount Carmel Catholic High School, class of 1962. Joyce worked as a product manager at the former Guinan's Department Store in Mount Carmel and later was employed at Packaging Resources, Mount Carmel Twp.

In 1981 she married Joseph Zavarick, who survives.

She was member of Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family. She and her husband traveled and enjoyed visiting Cocoa Beach, FL during the winter months. Joyce loved planting flowers in the spring time and had a fondness for poodles, especially her two beloved dogs, Jingles and Max.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Joseph Zavarick of Mount Carmel; two daughters, Jill Gilotti and husband, Jeffrey of Kulpmont and Jennifer Koveleskie of Mount Carmel; two sons, John Allen Chesney and wife, Mary Ellen of VA and Jeffrey Chesney and wife, Rachel of Elysburg; five grandchildren, Jacob Gilotti who was a caregiver who lived with Joyce, Justin Chesney of VA, Lydia Chesney of VA, Nicholas Chesney of Elysburg, and Derek Chesney of Elysburg; two step-sons, Robert Zavarick of NJ and Michael Zavarick of TN; a step-grandchild, Parker Zavarick of TN; a brother, Robert Galley of VA; as well as nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 12 p.m. with Father Francis Karwacki as celebrant in the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 47 S. Market St., Mt Carmel. All attending the Mass should use the Park Street side entrance to the Church. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. with transferal prayers at 11 a.m. in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut Street, Kulpmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Pennsylvania Keystone Chapter, 1501 Reedsdale Street, Suite 105 Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
