Mount Carmel - Lawrence J. "Butch" Petro, 69, of 51 East Railroad Street, died suddenly Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Bloomsburg on November 23, 1948 he was the son of the late Lawrence Petro and Robert and Charlotte Michaels.

Butch was a lifelong resident of the Mount Carmel and Catawissa areas; he was educated in Southern Columbia Schools and worked for numerous employers doing construction and mine work, he then became self employed opening the Petro Construction.

On June 9, 1994 in First United Methodist Church, Mount Carmel he married the former Darlene Kroh, who survives.

Butch served his country with the United States Marines during the Vietnam War as a helicopter gunner; he received the Air Medal w/numeral 11, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/3 stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/palm & frame, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ device, Rifle Marksman Badge, Combat Action Ribbon and Purple Heart Medal.

In addition to his wife, Darlene, he is survived by a daughter, Dorene McDonald and her husband Thomas of Strong; ten grandchildren, Tyler Petro, Justin Petro, Damian McDonald, Chloe McDonald, Dustin McDonald, Seth Petro, Megan Mihalik, Jessica Foutz, Jennifer Evans and Katie Foutz; seven great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Petro-Krammes of Lancaster; a sister, Theresa Meighan of Berwick and a brother, Brian Petro of Berwick as well as uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son David W. Petro on September 16, 2010; a brother, Andrew "Andy" Joseph Petro and his wife Erla Petro.

Lawrence J. "Butch" Petro, 69, of 51 East Railroad Street, Mount Carmel - Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 11:00 am in the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home, Inc., 27 North Vine Street, Mount Carmel with Reverend Joan Brown, officiating.  Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.  Viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 and Thursday morning from 9:00 until the time of service in the C.J.
