Mt. Carmel – Leo B. "Snookie" "Poss" Evert, 84, passed away on June 14, 2026, after a lengthy illness at Mt. Carmel Senior Living Community.

Born in Mount Carmel on December 14, 1941, he was the son of the late Clarence B. and Mildred (Boyer) Evert.

Leo was a 1959 graduate of Mount Carmel Area High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army with the 2nd Armored Division, "Hell on Wheels," attaining the rank of Specialist Fourth Class from 1964 to 1966. He continued his military service in the Army Reserve from 1966 to 1969.

Leo worked at the Boiler Engineer Company in Phoenixville, PA, and later worked and retired from International Paper Company in Mt. Carmel.

On July 10, 1965, he married the former Barbara L. Chesney at Our Mother of Consolation Church.

Leo was a member of Pinamonti's Dart League and softball team. He was also a member of the Atlas Legion and a lifetime member of the Beaverdale Fire Company.

An avid outdoorsman, Leo enjoyed fishing, hiking, and roasting wieners in the bush. He especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren. A devoted sports fan, he was a diehard supporter of the Mount Carmel Area Red Tornadoes and also enjoyed cheering for Notre Dame, the New York Yankees, and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Leo is survived by his wife, Barbara Evert; a daughter, Marie Cornell; a son, Stephen (Dawn) Evert; a granddaughter, Laura Cornell; two grandsons, Nicholas and Ryan Evert; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence W. Evert; two sisters, Joan May (Evert) Kline and Leona E. (Evert) Foster; and his two dogs, Buttons and Nico.

All are welcome to the visitation held on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 10 a.m. until noon in the C J Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mt. Carmel, PA 17851, C J Lucas IV, Supervisor.
