Leonard J. Smelter, 90, formerly of Mount Carmel, passed away on October 12, 2023, at Mountain View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Edgewood, MD, on December 19, 1932, the son of the late Joseph J. and Martha T. (Novack) Smelter.

Leonard has been a resident of the Mount Carmel area since 1949. He attended Mt. Carmel High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951- 1955, during the Korean War.

Leonard was a member of St. Joseph's Church, now known as Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He served as an usher for many years. He was a member of Mount Carmel VFW Post 2110 and Mount Carmel Senior Citizens. Leonard enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Leonard is survived by two sisters, Joan Ferrari of Atlas and Irene Smelter formerly of Kulpmont, now living in Harrisburg; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Father Francis Karwacki officiating in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mt. Carmel. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Twp. Viewing will be held in Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
