Kulpmont – Loretta J. (Tafner) Smith, 64, of Kulpmont, passed away on February 19, 2026, at Mountain View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Coal Twp.

She was born in Virginia on October 24, 1961, the daughter of the late Albert Tafner and Marie A. (Pegoretti) Shoffler.

Loretta was a graduate of North Schuylkill High School, Class of 1979.

Loretta is survived by her husband, Charles P. Smith of Mount Carmel; a brother, Richard Shoffler of Shamokin; two sisters, Diana Ortiz of Mount Carmel and Karen Steinhart of Strong; a grandson, Alex Henderson of Tower City; as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Loretta was preceded in death by a step-father, Norman "Babe" Shoffler; and a son, Chuckie D. Henderson.
