Marion Heights – Lorraine (Huxta) Waselewskie, 93, passed away on November 28, 2024, at Sunset Lane Hospice Care, Danville.

She was born in Marion Heights on October 20, 1931, the youngest of 4 children to George and Elizabeth (Sholtis) Huxta Sr.

Lorraine graduated from Kulpmont High School in 1949. She worked as a bookkeeper and billing/payroll clerk for Electric Supply Co. in Florida, a trucking company in New Jersey, and for a shirt factory in Shamokin.

On June 27, 1953, she married the love of her life, William A. Waselewskie, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Marion Heights. He preceded her in death in 1960. Together they had one daughter Elizabeth Ann, who was 4 at the time of his death.

Lorraine was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church until its closing, after which she joined the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and more recently, the Church of the Holy Angels. She served as the sacristan at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and was president of its Rosary Altar Society for many years. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters Court Our Lady of Victory 588 for 29 years.

Lorraine enjoyed reading, crafting, and gardening. An excellent cook, she loved preparing holiday meals for her family. Every year, she transformed the interior of her home into a Christmas wonderland with her collection of more than 200 ceramic houses and other decorations.

Devoted to her family, Lorraine cared for her husband and parents until their passing. She was affectionately known to her family as "Memee". Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she treasured the time spent with them. To sum up Lorraine's life, the words that come to mind are faith, sacrifice and service.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Mekosh and husband, Nick of Den Mar Gardens; two grandsons, Stephen Mekosh and wife, Annie and Jason Mekosh and wife, Elisabeth (Liz) of Baltimore, MD; a granddaughter, Michelle Laskoski and husband, Clem of Bethel; great-grandchildren, Henry and Owen Mekosh, Arthur Mekosh, Gabrielle, Hannah, Madeline, and Joseph Laskoski; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Pickover and husband, Charles and Anne Cummings and husband, Alfred (Ted); a brother, George Huxta Jr. and wife, Mildred; sister-in-law Helen Parenti, brothers-in-law Joseph and John (Jack) Wasilewski and wife Geraldine; two nephews, George Huxta III and Mark Huxta; and a great-nephew, George Huxta IV. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Dec. 9th, at 11 a.m. with Father Andrew Stahmer officiating in the Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott St., Kulpmont. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery, Marion Heights. Viewing will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8th from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 9th from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in the C J Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, Ashley P.
