Kulpmont – Lucille B. (Rugalla) Shimko of Kulpmont died April 21, 2022, at home peacefully asleep after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. God saw her suffering and took her home.

Lucille was born on May 20, 1942, at Geisinger, Danville to the late Michael and Anna (Pettello) Rugalla. She grew up in Marion Heights and graduated from Kulpmont High School.

She married the love of her life, Michael "Dave" Shimko on December 4, 1966, in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Mt. Carmel. They renewed their vows for their 25 ^th anniversary in St. Casimir's Church, Kulpmont. They were married for 55 years.

Lucille was a member of the Church of the Holy Angels, Kulpmont and was a former choir member there. She retired from Mount Carmel Elementary School after 20 years. She loved her job as a teacher's aide, working with children and teachers gave her great joy which explained the constant smile on her face. She also worked with her sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Larry Shepard delivering potato cake batter to stores in a beat-up Beetle bug. She loved that car.

Her favorite past time was bowling and she was crowned Miss Ridge Lanes. Lucille was Dave's football buddy at home. They enjoyed watching the Mount Carmel Tornadoes, the Eagles, and Penn State. You could hear Lucille yelling at either the radio or the TV. Lucille considered her children her greatest accomplishment and they blessed her with loving grandchildren.

Lucille is survived by her husband, Dave; son, Michael (Tacie) Shimko; daughter, Louann (Dan) Stoud; five grandchildren, former USN GM2, Jacob Shimko, Haley Shimko, Samantha (Garrett) Mowery, Tyriq Stoud, and Trinity Stoud; two great granddaughters, Emma Rose Mowery and Avery Rae Mowery; a brother, Michael (Christine) Rugalla; a sister, Sister Michael Ann; brother-in-law, Thomas Shimko; two sisters-in-law, Rose Koldash and Betty Eckenrode; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Jasmine Stoud; three brothers-in-law, Henry Koldash, Dennis Eckenrode, and Lawrence Shepard; and two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Shimko and Gloria Shepard.

FUNERAL NOTICE

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 10 a.m. with Father Andrew Stahmer officiating in the Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott St., Kulpmont. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. There will be no public visitation and everyone is asked to meet in the Church at 9:50 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott St., Kulpmont, PA 17834 or to an Animal Shelter of your choice in her memory.
