Mount Carmel – Mary T. Altomare, 88, 451 W. Saylor St., passed away January 21, 2022 at her residence, surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 25, 1933, the daughter of William and Laura (Colahan) Hollister.

Mary was a proud graduate of Mount Carmel Catholic High School, where she met the love of her life, Warren J. Altomare, and found friends she stayed close with the rest of her life. Mary worked at Meldot's, a children's clothing store, for 14 years before buying the business and running it for 11 years with her daughter. Mary loved dressing generations of children for special occasions such as christenings, communions and holidays.  She also worked as a Bell  Telephone operator, seamstress, and she was also employed at the Mount Carmel Public Library. Mary was active in the Mount Carmel Business Association, the Chamber of Commerce, Women's Club, and Red Hat Society. After retiring from the store, Mary enjoyed traveling the world and going on adventures with her lifelong friend Alice O'Donnell, including the trip of a lifetime to Ireland to honor her much beloved Irish heritage.

Mary was an avid reader, Jeopardy fan, and never missed a Mt. Carmel football game on TV; but her greatest joys were found in her family, who will cherish a lifetime of memories from weekly family dinners, to shopping trips, Broadway shows, Easter Bunny cakes, and greeting cards for every occasion and accomplishment. She will be missed more than words can say.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Laurie Johnson & husband, Randy of Mount Carmel and Diane Altomare and husband, Robert Sieklicki of Mount Carmel; two granddaughters, Laura Johnson of Philadelphia and Elyse Nevins and husband, Brian of Abington; a brother, Jerry Hollister and wife, Alice of Hatboro; a brother-in-law, Lenny Altomare and wife, Jackie of Philadelphia; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Katchick and husband, Michael of Kulpmont, and Patricia Altomare of NY; a daughter-in-law Kathleen Hoffman of Artistas, PA and her children Nicole, and husband Andy Fisher and their children Aiden and Devin of Maryland, and Joshua Hoffman of New York; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Warren D. Altomare; brother, James Hollister and wife, Joan; two brothers-in-law, John Altomare and Marcus Altomare; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Whispell and husband, Robert.

FUNERAL NOTICE

Mary T. Altomare, 88, 451 W. Saylor St., Mt. Carmel – Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 11 a.m. with Father Francis Karwacki officiating in Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 47 South Market St., Mt. Carmel. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Visitation will be held in the Church from 9:15 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Arrangements are in care of C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N.
