Mount Carmel – Mary "Cookie" E. (Sinopoli) Netchel, 85, of Mount Carmel, passed away on March 23, 2024, at her residence.

She was born in Shamokin on March 3, 1939, the daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Mirack) Sinopoli.

Mary was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Mount Carmel High School, class of 1957. She was a secretary in the State House of Representatives in Harrisburg for 35 years.

On November 10, 1984, in Jim Thorpe, she married Robert Netchel, who survives.

Mary loved the Lord with all her heart and she wanted everyone else in the world to know her same love for Jesus. She was a former member of Primrose Bible Church. Mary served with her husband, as part of the Yokefellow Prison Ministry for SCI Frackville from 1989 - 1999. She was selected as the volunteer of the year in 1997.

Mary is survived by her husband, Robert Netchel of Mount Carmel; and her daughter, Christine Zarek of Harrisburg; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara Madden, Josephine Bennediti, and Rose Molz.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024, at noon with Rev. Keith McCarthy officiating in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mt. Carmel, C. J. Lucas IV, Supervisor. Burial will follow in the Kulpmont Protestant Cemetery, Kulpmont. Viewing will be held on Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home.
