Atlas - Mary Louise (D'Amico) Hirsch, 96, formerly of 246 W Saylor St, Atlas, passed away January 31, 2023 at Serenity Gardens, Kulpmont, peacefully in her sleep.

She was born May 26, 1926, at her home in Atlas, a daughter of Italian immigrants Sabatino D'Amico and Maria Carmano (Vallozza) D'Amico.

Mary graduated from Mount Carmel Township High School, class of 1944.  On May 14 ^th , 1949 she married the love of her life Charles "Chaz" Hirsch, who preceded her in death on May 15, 2004 after celebrating 55 years of marriage.

As a young girl, Mary was raised in St. Paul's Chapel in Atlas until she joined Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where she was a faithful parishioner for 72 years until her passing.

In her early years, she worked at local garment factories and Central Supermarket on Oak Street. As the beloved matriarch of her family, Mary's home was the center of all family celebrations and holidays. She loved cooking Italian cuisine and frequently made manicotti, pizzelles, and many other Italian delicacies. Mary dined out often with the ladies of the Red Hat Society. She was an active committee member for her high school reunions for years, never missing a reunion, and she always enjoyed sitting on her front porch socializing with her many treasured friends and neighbors.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Hirsch and her husband John Behrens of Oak Park, Illinois and a son, Dr. David Hirsch and his significant other Linda Novacuskie of Elysburg; two granddaughters, Dr. Allison Hirsch and her husband Ronald Weaver of Paxinos, and Rachel Knowles and her husband Kevin of Austin, Texas; their mother, Jean Crago of Paxinos; two great-grandsons, Clark and Theodore Weaver; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings; brothers Alberto (in infancy), Edward D'Amico, Joseph D'Amico, and sister Eleanor Siedlecki.

The entire family would like to thank Serenity Gardens and Advantage Home Health and Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Mary.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 11 a.m. with Father Francis Karwacki as celebrant in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 47 S. Market St., Mt. Carmel. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Viewing will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 8 p.m. and Friday, February 3, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mt. Carmel PA 17851, C. J. Lucas IV, supervisor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mount Carmel Public Library, 30 S. Oak Street, Mt. Carmel, PA 17851.
