Nancy D. (Balchunas) Litwin, 92, formerly of Marion Heights, passed away October 31, 2023, at Brookdale Grandon Farms, Mechanicsburg.

She was born in Shamokin on March 4, 1931, the daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie (McGuire) Balchunas. She was raised in Ranshaw by her Aunt Mary (Sis)McGuire and Grandmother Maggie McGuire.

On August 13, 1955, in St. Anthony's Church, Ranshaw, she married Robert E. Litwin, who preceded her in death in 1982.

Nancy was a graduate of Coal Township High School, class of 1948. She attended Robert Packer Preparatory School in Brooklyn, NY. She was among the first graduating class to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Pennsylvania.  She taught nursing at The University of Pennsylvania, Geisinger, and Ashland State Hospital. She worked for Shamokin Hospital as an In-Service Director and Director of Nursing until her retirement.

Nancy was a lifelong resident of the area until 2022 when she moved to be near family in Mechanicsburg.

Nancy was a member of Holy Angels Church, Kulpmont. She was a church lector and she enjoyed helping out with church picnics. Nancy was also a member of the Brady Fire Co., Marion Heights Fire Co., and the Kulpmont American Legion. She enjoyed line dancing, crossword puzzles, and she was an avid fan of the Shoreliners Band.

Nancy is survived by two daughters, Nanette Eisenhuth and husband, Ned of Willow Street and The Honorable Leanne Litwin of Philadelphia; a son, Robert Litwin and wife, Sandra of York Springs; grandson, Kent Eisenhuth and wife, Dr. Beverly of Wynnewood; great-grandchildren, Harper and Hudson; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by a brother, Cdr. Robert C. Balchunas.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Father Andrew Stahmer as celebrant in the Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott St., Kulpmont. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. with transferal prayers at 10 a.m. in the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
