Nicholas J. Gard, 93, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born August 15, 1931, he was the son of the late Morris Gard and Philomena Bruno.

Nicholas was a lifelong resident of Kulpmont. He was a 1949 graduate of Kulpmont High School. After high school, he attended Churchman Business College in Easton, PA, where he earned a degree in accounting. He was a licensed public accountant and the owner and operator of Gard Accounting.

On November 17, 1956 in St. Peter's Church in Mount Carmel, Nicholas married Shirley P. Barletta, who survives.

Nicholas was a member of the Church of the Holy Angels in Kulpmont, a life member of the Knights of Columbus in Elysburg, and a member of both the Kulpmont American Legion and VFW. He was a past member of the Mount Carmel School Board for 12 years. He was a member of the Saint Pauline Shrine in Kulpmont and belonged to the Susquehanna Valley Chapter for American Wine Society. Nicholas was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean War.

Nicholas was an avid tennis player. He was well loved and enjoyed preparing taxes and helping people.

Nicholas is survived by a wife, Shirley Gard; a son, Nicholas T. Gard and wife Cheri; a daughter, Eileen Kowalski and husband Curt; four grandchildren, Nicole Gard, Alyssa Gard, Caylan Kowalski, and Nicholas Kowalski; a brother, Morris Gard; and a sister-in-law, Ann Gard. Survivors also include many nieces and nephews.

Nicholas was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Joseph Gard; and two sisters, Mary Gard, and Anna Marie Voloshin.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. with Father Andrew Stahmer officiating in the Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott St., Kulpmont. Burial will follow in All Saint's Cemetery, Elysburg. Viewing will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Angels.
