Marion Heights - Olga Slater, 76, of 126 W. Melrose Street, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born in Shamokin on October 10, 1940, she was the daughter of John and Mary (Woytowich) Horengic. She was a graduate of Kulpmont High School, and a lifelong resident of Marion Heights; she was employed as a food prep caterer at Knoebels Grove and was also a homemaker.

On May 4, 1963, at the Patronage of Mother of God in Marion Heights, she married Robert Slater Sr. who preceded her in death on November 18, 2016.

Olga was a member of Patronage of Mother of God in Marion Heights. She was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage, teaching classes on embroidery, pysanky, and pierogies and would bake for church socials.

She is survived by her two sons, Robert Slater Jr. and his fiancé Marie Cornell of Pittston and Andrew Slater and his wife Lynne of VA; three grandchildren, Nicholas Slater of VA, Katie Slater of VA, Laura Cornell of Pittston; two brothers, Daniel Horengic and his wife Marion of FL and Carl Horengic and his wife Margaret of MD; one sister-in-law Bernadette Horengic of MD; a brother-in-law John Slater Sr. and his wife Nanette of Elizabethtown and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother, John Horengic Jr.

Olga Slater, 76, formerly of 126 West Melrose Street, Marion Heights - Divine Liturgy will be celebrated Monday, May 15, 2017 at 11 am in Patronage of Mother of God Church, 155 Melrose Street, Marion Heights with Reverend Mykola Ivanov, officiating.  Burial will be held in Patronage of Mother of God Cemetery, Marion Heights. Viewing will be held Monday morning from 9-10:45 with Panakhyda at 10:15 in the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home, Inc., 1053 Chestnut Street, Kulpmont, C.J. Lucas, Supervisor. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Patronage of Mother of God Church, c/o Transfiguration Rectory, 303 North Shamokin Street, Shamokin.
